Because words cannot describe how excited I was to get this package in the mail today.

I have been waiting very impatiently by my mailbox for this little guy from Odd One Out for a few days now. Through no fault of Fiona's, of course -- international shipping doesn't happen overnight, but I really really wish it did. Ever since I fell in love this Frankie I have been dying to own on of her brooches, and my wish came true today!

Things didn't start out pretty, though.

After I brought the mail in and set everything on the table, I ran to my room to grab my camera so I could take pictures of some new hair ribbons I made. When I came back I was sure glad I had it, because I found this.

... Oh dear. I was too dumbfounded to react at first. The cats hadn't done it, they were all hiding. Then he climbed out of the wreckage and started tottering toward me.

I tried restraining him using the ribbon Fiona used to tie the package with, which was a success!

... But only temporarily. He seemed madder after he ripped the ribbon away Hulk-style.

He put me under some sort of spell as he wobbled nearer; I was powerless to escape his rugged good looks and charming smirk.

He came nearer and nearer, until...

He insisted I get a good close-up of his good side. I was only too happy to oblige.

P.S. Can I just say how AWESOME her business cards are? Whoamg

cocky cozies

I decided to look through some coffee cozies and other assorted crochet items on Etsy today, just to see what was out there. Crochet never really appealed to me. It always seemed so dowdy and blah, and there's such an abundance of scarves and whatnot that I always just sort of ignored it. Today I was proved wrong. Astoundingly, spectacularly wrong.

I saw this one first, thought it was cute. It made me smile. I would own something like this, even though I don't drink much coffee. Actually something like this would inspire me to drink more coffee just so I could use it.

So I decided to look at the rest of the store to see what other silliness resided therein.

And of course, my favorite...

And those are just the COFFEE CUP cozies. There are apple cozies (which I still don't understand at all), iPod cozies, plus other assorted knitted stuff like scarves, hats, jewelry, home accessories, etc. etc.

Check out the store! ~ Knotwork Shop on Etsy ~

features, round 1

Long overdue to be sure, my first set of features! No real theme, just whatever struck my fancy. I went hunting last night (meaning I made a "COME TO ME" thread on the forums haha) and saw some really amazing items. These are all things I would buy if I had endless space and money. Click on the pictures to view the Etsy listing.

obsession rehashed

I love the winter. The weather is... not necessarily cold in Southern California, just less blatantly hot. We've been getting a lot of rain this season, which is both a nice change and a huge pain in the ass.

I did get my car's sun roof fixed today, which is a huge weight off my shoulder. Finding an inch of water on my back seat's floorboards was NOT a pleasant experience, but it didn't beat getting dripped on the face while driving. I thought I circumvented the problem by leaving the roof slid back and the glass closed so it could drain properly and not soak the headliner (which is why it dripped), but soon figured out the water just sat in the track and didn't drain. How did I figure that out? The wall of water that hit me when I accelerated was a clue. But the good news is it's fixed and I (hopefully) don't have to worry about that any more.

More importantly, I love the winter because of what happens this time of year. Kings hockey is what I liiiiive for, and this season is no exception. My boys are third in the Pacific Division and fifth in the NHL. FIFTH. They finished 25th last season. They're set to make their first post season run in about nine years. I've been a fan of this team since I was very small, and I have never been more excited for a season to finish. I can't wait to see the Kings in the post season -- knock on wood that they still make it, of course!

But NHL hockey is on a break right now for the Winter Olympics. Of course I'm excited to watch some gnarly Olympic hockey action, but to be quite honest, my hearts sings for a different sport. CURLING. That's right, curling. It's such an intense sport, requiring spot-on geometric calculations and perfect throwing force. Also watching curlers scrub the ice so freaking fast, and how they slide around on those Teflon-soled shoes... it's such a neat and unique experience to watch. Also doesn't hurt that one of the Canadian men curlers is a RIPPED blue-eyed fireman.
